ICON Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 August 2026

ICON is the mobile app for Love Your Lift boat lift controllers. It lets an owner raise, lower and configure their lift, view the lift's camera, and control connected receptacles. This policy explains what the app collects, what it does not, and what happens to the information you give us.

The short version. ICON contains no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is sent to anyone except Love Your Lift's own servers. The app does not use your phone's camera or microphone, and on current versions of Android and on iOS it does not request or use your location.

Who we are

ICON is published by Love Your Lift. If you have a question about this policy or about information we hold, contact us at support@loveyourlift.com.

Information in your account

Using ICON requires an account, which is created for you when your lift is installed or serviced rather than inside the app. The app itself has no sign-up screen — the only details you type into it are your username and password.

Your account record can contain:

InformationWhy it exists
Name and usernameIdentifying your account and your lifts
Email addressPassword resets and service notifications
Phone numberText-message notifications, if you have them enabled
Postal addressAssociating your account with the site where your lift is installed
PasswordSigning you in

Where your address, phone number or email were provided by an installer or dealer rather than by you, you can ask us at any time what we hold and have it corrected.

Information about your lift

To operate a lift, the app exchanges information with our servers about the equipment itself, not about you:

The camera

ICON never uses the camera or microphone on your phone. The camera feature shows the camera fitted to your lift. Still images from that camera are stored on our servers so they can be shown to you, and live video is streamed directly to your phone while you are watching. The app does not save photos or video to your phone's storage or photo library.

Bluetooth, and why older phones ask about location

ICON can talk to your lift directly over Bluetooth when the lift has no internet connection, so that you are never left unable to move your boat. This requires permission to scan for and connect to nearby Bluetooth devices.

On Android 12 and later, ICON declares that its Bluetooth scanning is never used to determine location, and it does not request location permission. On Android 11 and earlier, the operating system itself required location permission before any app could scan for Bluetooth devices, so ICON requests it on those versions only. In neither case does ICON read, store or transmit your location. On iOS, ICON requests Bluetooth permission only.

What we do not collect

Information stored on your phone

ICON stores a small amount of information on your device:

Worth knowing: if you chose Remember me, signing out of ICON does not by itself erase your saved username and password from the device. To remove them, clear the Remember me tick on the sign-in screen, change your password, or uninstall the app. If a phone with ICON on it is lost or stolen, changing your password will prevent that phone from signing in again.

ICON is excluded from Android's automatic cloud backup, so your saved credentials are not copied off the device by the operating system.

How information travels

All communication between ICON and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and secure WebSockets. Live video is carried over an encrypted media connection. The app does not send anything over an unencrypted connection.

Our servers, and who else is involved

Your information is held on servers operated for Love Your Lift. A small number of service providers process specific information on our behalf:

ProviderWhat they receiveWhy
TwilioYour phone number and the message textSending text notifications
SendGridYour email address and the message textSending email, including password resets

These providers act on our instructions and do not use your information for their own purposes.

Our servers keep a record of sign-in attempts, including the network address and device type they came from, for up to 21 days. This exists to detect misuse of accounts.

Keeping information secure

We protect information in transit with encryption, hold device credentials in the operating system's secure storage, and restrict administrative access to our systems to trained staff.

Stated plainly: parts of our platform, including how account passwords are stored, use an older design inherited from earlier generations of our controllers, which we are working to replace. We would rather say so than imply a stronger guarantee than we can currently make. For that reason, please use a password for ICON that you do not use for any other service, and change it if you have re-used one. We will update this section as that work lands.

Your choices and your rights

Children

ICON is a tool for operating marine equipment and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how ICON handles information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email.
